Science and God

I read a disturbing article featuring the Scientist Stephen Hawking wherein he is denying God's existence in our world.   In a time like today, when our world is in so much turmoil, for him to be so callously flippant about religion is heartbreaking!

The New York Times online article read:

Mr. Hawking’s new book, “The Grand Design,” published on Tuesday, has already made headlines and been a trending topic on Twitter, thanks to a different sort of Godmongering. This time Mr. Hawking has, we’re told, declared God pretty much dead.

His search for an answer to the question “How did the universe begin?” has led him to suggest that the creation of our universe and others simply “does not require the intervention of some supernatural being or god.”

While I love Science, I love that there are people in our world who are so smart and can help us figure things out; our past, our present, our future, and we learn from them as they explore the unknown in our world; I find it really reprehensible for him to make such a rash judgement!  There are people today who depend on and need that knowledge, or safety (if you will), that our God is here in their lives, guiding them, helping them in their darkest hour, when they would have given up; their faith in God, in their religion, keeps them going!

Why are Scholars and Scientists so bent out of shape to prove that God doesn't exist?  I say go out their and continue to explore our world, but put that energy towards something that will help us!  Like what?  How about finding the cure for Cancer and Aids and any other diseases that afflicts us?!  Sure we want to know more about our Universe, we want to continue to explore the unknown, but why can't we have our God too?!
