Happy Labor Day

It's Labor Day here in the United States.  It is a public holiday, a day off work for some. While many people will be having a cook out also known as a Barbecue (barbeque) or (BBQ), some will be headed to the beach (I wanna go!), meeting up with family and friends, with the intentions of relaxing, hanging loose, and just making fun memories.

But what my dear readers is the real reason for this holiday?  Why do we celebrate it at all?  In fact, even in my birth country, Jamaica, we celebrate Labour (spelt that way) Day as well.  Hmm....for now I  will tell you the reasons for the one here in the US and I'm sure that will be the reason why anyone celebrates this type of holiday.

The official reason for Labor Day is for workers, yes, for us, the people who work for a living, doing whatever they do.  And even if, like, me, you are unemployed momentarily, it is in honor of you and all that you do, and have done.  We make up the constituents called the "work force" because what we do add to the economy of our cities and the country at large.

This day usually occurs the first Monday in the month of September and was created by the Labor Movement as a yearly tribute to the "prosperity and well-being of our country".

So whatever you do today, let us remember the real reason for celebrating this holiday. And yes, go ahead and enjoy the fruits of your labor, celebrating any which way you can.  Have a parade, or go to one! You deserve it!

At this time there are many parades, including the one celebrated in Brooklyn NY, by West Indians, people of the Caribbean united in honor of all workers!  It is a day of pride, wherein dancing and celebration ensues!
