Taking Chance

I saw this move on HBO last night. It was pretty moving to me, emotionally moving. It was about a soldier who died in Iraq and his coming home, it was based on a true story.

I had no idea that the men who died in Iraq or other wars, were escorted home by other soldiers. In this story, Kevin Bacon's character, (a real person) Lt. Colonel Mike Strobl, is a Marine Officer who volunteered to take home a soldier who died in Iraq back to his home town in Colorado. I was very moved how meticulous the people who had the task of cleaning up the bodies, preparing them for their return home, and how many people were involved in doing this.

The people who Bacon's character met along the way, from the person who prepared the body, the check in person at the airline counter, the pilot, the men who worked in the baggage area, the other passengers on the airplane, the stewardess and the people who were driving on the road when the hearse that transported the body, along with the vehicle that Kevin was traveling in, They all gave the respect that was deserved, and showed such reverence, it was pretty emotional to watch. This was a show worth watching, and a story I'm pleased to have known about!

I read that this film was a tribute not only to all the fallen war heroes but especially for Chance Phelps, the 19 year old Marine who was killed in Iraq.
