HIV/Aids Awareness

Today the United States recognizes Saturday, March 10, 2012 as National women and Girls' HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.  You might have noticed the badge I had on my Home page about this.  I've placed the badge up front and to the right of my blog.

By recognizing today, The US Department of Health & Human Services and the Office on Women's Health, are trying to educate others.  So many people have been affected by this disease.  Did you know that being HIV positive doesn't mean that you have AIDS? Or that you can't get sick because of someones saliva?  Or that someone gets infected every 9 minutes?  Or that more than one million Americans are living with HIV?  Some don't know they are!  It is only through education, by learning more about it that we can arm ourselves with the protection we need and be informed.  I agree that with knowledge comes power!

What is the Red Pump Project?  They raise awareness about the disease, especially its effect on women and young girls.  They raise funds and work tirelessly to get everyone to recognize important dates, participate in events and activities, including encouraging HIV testing.

You can show your support by donating to the cause, spreading the word, and yes, you too can wear your favorite red pump!  Please click on the link below to read more about HIV/AIDS and the Red Pump Project!
