Loyalty...Where art though?

Once upon a time dear readers, working for a company, corporation, conglomerate, used to be the place to be.  These companies would offer lots of employee benefits, great salaries, sometimes including a bonus at the end of the year; or even a great commission for a job well-done!  You could depend on the company you work for, the supervisor you worked under, even the human resources office was your friend. Not so today!

Today the very word loyalty is missing not just on the company's end, but also from employees as well!  It's almost as if working has become a bad marriage of sorts. Where companies don't give a shit about their employees, and the employees return the sentiment. In all honesty, I can't blame the employees who don't have that sense of loyalty anymore. With this bad (and now recovering {I keep reading} economy), a lot of people have been tossed out with only their shirts on their backs!  They don't even get the chance to say "See ya later, nice working w/you" to their co-workers; for many not even a watch in commemoration of having spent a many years with the same company!

I recently read where some workers who were standing up for their rights, and their paychecks were told they were replaceable by lesser paid, lesser skilled employees - so get back to work or else! Even the unions are no longer in the workers corners. They don't seem to fight for their workers anymore! They are too busy doing what the companies want and not working in favor of the very employees who pay their dues, some times because they have to! Thus they continue to get their fat pay checks, while the workers continue to be under duress!!  I've noticed that almost everything that those workers in this good country who have worked hard to put in place over the years, workers rights, and benefits, are being tossed out on the sidewalk by even the Supreme court! You no longer can go to bat if your supervisor is harassing you...yep, loyalty...no such word exists anymore, it seems!

  1. You are SO correct!!! My husband lost his job after being there for 6 years and was so loyal to the company. They just didn't want to pay him the salary he was earning They decided to cut back and he was let go. We lost all of our benefits--everything. He has a new job now but it's not the same and we have struggled ever since.

  2. Sad isn't it? Sucks & it makes you mad because of how they did that. Same here. My hubby lost his full time job after 9 years....loyalty...(some) companies don't seem to care about their workers anymore.

  3. So true. It's sad too, how many people I've seen lose their jobs and all of the retirement months before it was supposed to come due.

  4. Agreed, sad. It's unfair the way some employees are being treated these days. If may go with the territory, and risk of today's market, but it's just sad.
